Equestrian Facilities
The Salford Forest Park scheme includes a wide range of proposals for equestrian activity. In addition to the racecourse, four other equestrian groups will be catered for within the scheme.
- Casual and schooled riding will be accommodated on the wide range of bridlepaths which will run through the Park.
- The existing livery stabling activity at Moss House Farm will be re-located to Malkins Wood Farm, where it will accommodate up to 80 horses.
- Showjumping and dressage training and ‘horse show’ competitions will be catered for at new outdoor and indoor arenas adjacent to, and run in conjunction with, the livery stables.
- Eventing, including both one-day and Three-day events, will be accommodated on arenas at the livery stables and within the racetrack, and on cross country courses laid out for amateur and junior riders, and for professional riders.
Brief Explanation of Relevant Equestrian Activities
Equestrian activity covers a wide range of different disciplines. Some of the most popular activities are show jumping, dressage and cross country riding, all of which require good training facilities. The demonstration of horsemanship, including dressage and show jumping, takes place at all levels at events, shows, and gymkhanas. Show-grounds range from very simple gatherings in a field, to well equipped and purpose built centres with a range of facilities.
