Woodlands

About 42 hectares of new woodland will be established. These will comprise:

  • Long ‘shelterbelt’ style blocks of trees to provide containment and structure around the racecourse.
  • Smaller copses around the farmland areas to the south of the Avenue to provide visual interest and an improved habitat network.
  • New woodland blocks designed to create and frame spaces around the Forest Centre and Eco Village.
  • Long blocks of planting between fairways to provide structure to the golf course.
  • New blocks of woodland along the new road corridor from the A580 to the north of the canal, which will provide screening of moving vehicles and an attractive approach to the development.

The layout of the new woodlands will create new wildlife corridors, and add to the area of existing mature woodland, in order to maximise their potential contribution to biodiversity.

A new network of paths and trails will be established.
